Problem Statement

Designers, artists or anyone who is involved in the artistic field always need a good portfolio website to showcase their work. Often times a budding artist or art student starts with a free website template but most free templates are limited from a responsive, accessible, and design perspectives. Therefore, I wanted to create a modern, fully responsive and accessible portfolio template that can be used for free.

Project Overview

The five page template would have a homepage, category page, inner page and a contact page which can later be integrated with a CMS like WordPress.

My Role

As a solo designer, I was responsible for the entire design process, including competitive analysis, user survey, interviews, personas, usability testing, style guide, wire-framing, and prototyping.

User Research

I conducted interview and created empathy map to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was the studio artists and graphic designers wanting to make their presence through WordPress.

  • The users also revealed that limited knowledge of web was a problem for formatting and showcasing their work and process that are not always similar to each other.
  • Other user problem included obligation, interests, or challenges that make it difficult.

Empathy Map

How do user find out about the template?

Through google search for “free portfolio template”. The other medium could be word of mouth through a friend circle. Social Media also plays a vital role on marketing the product, especially like FB, Instagram, Bechance, LinkedIn and Twitter.

How do they know if the template is right for them? Is there sample content?

There will be a preview of the template on my website and as an artist I will use my own content as a sample.

Where do we get the template? What are all of the steps?

It can be download from the WordPress Site eventually. The link will be shared to multiple social media platform. There will also be an option to download the product directly from my website.

Where can we find the license information about the template and what to do if the template is broken?

There will be a link on the webpage and users can contact me through email if problems appear in the future.
